What’s wrong with you?

Every time and everywhere you are complain, you always fell there is something less, and less.

You fell unsatisfied, you are unthanks

I believed that everyone hotly will answer “yes” when he/she was asked, do you want to reach a success?. But, most of them are not brave to answer when he/she was asked, do you want to pay the struggle?. The truth is most of people unwilling to take up the way of success that looks difficult and heavy. They want directly until to the finish line only, but they do not want to walk their foot to reach there finish line.

When the sky was so clear and blue, the wind spreaded in the whole village, and the air was as cool as an ice in the breath. She just sat and waited, what she waited for, she exactly didn’t know. She turned the lamp off in the room, since an hours ago was still bright. She felt loneliness hugged into soul. She remembered one time when it was over. What happened, what occurred, which falled her in the deep anxious.

Step by step the mountaineer can arrived to peak of a mountain.

Step by step the runner of marathon can passed a ten of kilometer.

Rotation by rotation the car can pass a hundred of kilometer

Allah has created everything in this universe, thee (alone) owner the day of judgment¹. And Allah created anything, for instance: the earth², the light of the sun and the moon³, the sky⁴, changing morning to evening, otherwise evening to morning to make us thinking about those and believe that Allah is the greatest one⁵. Therefore, language is one of the “thing” who Allah gave human being to communicate with the other, to manage, and to organize the earth⁶.

As far as we know that human being made the rules and the laws to regulate the other human, made a society, furthermore made a country. To make it certainly with the mediator, it name is language. To say the least, we always use it everyday. When we talk to our parents, friends, and other person, but we haven’t known exactly, what the language is? What the aspect of language is? For the time being, i will explain about the aspect of language, for instance: nature of language, study of language and the relevance of linguistics.

The Nature of Language

Language is a system, that has two systems, it is sounds and meaningful. When we say: qur’an, it means that the holy book of moslem. In arabic grammar rules it said with kalam mufid wa musnad (the sentences that have a meaning and can understood). Another features of human language is that it is productive and creative. This refers to the ability of native speaker to understand and produce any number of sentences in their mother tongue. Also, language is arbitrary. Words have the meaning they do and occur in order they do, just because the native speakers of the language agree to accept them as such.

Language gave us an ability to related with person that we haven’t introduced yet. It also brings us into relationship, and it learned as a skills that is acquired when we grow up in society. All languages are equally complex. Each language is part of the culture that produces it and it is adequate for the needs and aims of the people who use it. For instance: the ethnic of minangkabau, one of the ethnic group in sumatera island have a traditional poetry (each verse of which consists of two couplets: the first suggests the 2d by sound or other similarity. It is often sung in contests where a boy addresses a quatrain to a girl who must answer with a quatrain of her own) as they communication everyday.

Our beloved country, Indonesia. It has more than 546 vernacular over the ethnic group, and region in Indonesia⁷. For example: the well-known language is Java vernacular, it has 3 levels that depend on the usage. Kromo inggil is the polite form of Java used to and among upper-class people, Kromo alus is the polite form of Java used to and among same-class people, Ngoko is speech level of Java used among intimates or when speaking to certain people of lower status⁸. Even though, one region is different with the other, such as: solo has calm dialect than other, Brebes has dialect with stressing words like kebumen and wonosobo.

Any language, is as good as any other in that it serves the purposes of the particular culture. Words may be created or borrowed as the need arises. No language intrinsically better or worse than any other, because Allah made the different language and color of leather becames one of thou regalia⁹.

Study of Language

Long time ago, language had been studied, such as the experiment of philosophical of Greek, Herodotus who lived in the 5th century BC. That an Egyptian King, by the name of Psammetichos, wished to determine which of the world’s languages was the oldest. He found that the oldest language is Phrygian. Be like that, the theory pooh-pooh, and bow-bow. But study of language in terms of correctness is not considered scientific and nor is the study of language based on speculation. The scientific way of studying a language should be based on actual observation of the language to see how it is actually spoken by the native speakers.

Nowadays, Study of language famous with the Linguistics, it had been proven to be a science because 5 characteristics had been completed, Such as:

1. Subject matter, the subject matter of linguistics is explicit, for example: Linguistics explained about human being language, as a system between sound and meaningful.

2. Objective, Linguistics explained about language according to objective of language, nor subjective because if linguistics explained about subjective, it will not generalization.

3. Generalization, Linguistics is accepted become a knowledge that explained about language by the people.

4. Statement on the result of investigation should be arranged in systematic form, Linguist had arranged the observation and research systematically.

5. A Science is never static, Linguistics is dynamic in that it is open to changed and reconsideration.

However, we know that Arabic language, there are the well-known Linguist i.e. Bulaghah, they arranged the Arabic language systematically, generalization, etc. For example: ilmu ma’ani (interpretation), and bayan (meaning)¹⁰. Beside that, there are grammarian, they are Kuffah and Basrah¹¹. At least, it has been agreed taht linguistics can be called as a science with the fulfillment of the requisite knowledge be a science.

The Relevance of Linguistics

As a teacher especially language teacher, we should know about linguistics. Because linguistics has 3 benefits for us, for example:

1. Linguistics can increased awareness of language should make a language teacher more competent in his job.

2. Linguistics can be more directly applied to teaching language.

3. Linguistics can be the source of assumptions and has certain applications for language teaching.

In conclusion, Language has been an important position in our life, language can related us to the other, make a relationship, furthermore make a society. And we know that language in the world was so abundant, but intrinsically there is not language better or worse than any other. Because human being is the same according to Allah, except the faithful¹². And we know that our prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa sallam said: “You are all children of Adam( peace be unto him), and Adam is from clay. Let there no superiority of an arab over non-arab, nor non-arab over an arab, and neither shall be a superiority of a white over a black, nor a balck over a white person, except by good character( taqwa)¹³. At least, let’s we thank to Allah, for the abundant graceful that we can never count it.

Human is the best creature that Allah created¹,wehave a brain to think, and a heart to feel.The heart is the source of the body, like the prophet Muhammad SAW said that our body has a leader, if it be good, our body will be good, and if it be bad, our body be bad, it is a heart². With the perfection whose was given by Allah, human be a leader in this world i.e.khalifah, to protect, to use, to organize the earth. And one of the perfection is has a language.

For instance, language is for communication to the other human, built a civilization, a society and made a relationship. Allah has taught a human a language³. And Allah has a “language” thou self, but it not seems with our language, we know in the Qur’an:

وكلم الله موسى تكليما⁴

It means that Allah talk with Musa AS, the interpretation is Allah has a “language”, without sounds and words. The big question, could it be? Yes, it could, because Allah is god, Allah the first of those who are first and last of those who are last, Allah talk, command, prohibit, promise, and threaten with the first Kalam Azali and stand-alone, thou kalam is not seem with the creature. Thou kalam is not cause the sounds that out from the mouth⁵.

The real example, when we feel something; happy, sad, worry, anxious, pain, love etc. exactly we said with our self, example; “I’ve done the best that I can do but I got C in the reading exam.” , “I’m happy cause I got A in the Arabic language exam”, is it said? No. Everyone will not understand what you are feeling although he/she beside you, it was “The heart language”. Like that Allah talks with Musa AS, without sounds and words, and talk with the other prophet.

Language, so what the language is? Further we talk about language, but we don’t know what the definition is? When we ask in the street about language, one of the answers is language is used for communication, and it is made up of sounds. For example; the expression good morning in English, Buenos dias in Spain, buongiorno in Italia, Guten morgen in German, selamat pagi in Indonesia, sugeng enjing in Center of Java.

Every region has the specific language, like the example above. That is, there is no necessary connection between the sounds people use and the object to which those sounds refer. Such as; guten morgen, certainly we are unfamiliar with these language, but after we open the German dictionary, we will know that word means good morning, Word have the meaning they do and occur in the order they do, one of the characteristics of human language i.e. arbitrary.

Second characteristic is systematic. Since language is a system of speech sounds, it is systematic. For instance, ‘good morning my dear’ will certainly make sense and meaning, but a random accumulation of words like ‘dear my good morning’. The latter doesn’t make a meaning because the signaling units of words here are not arranged according to the characteristics patterns of English.

Third characteristic is spoken. All people in the whole world, regardless of their ethnic group or region, always speak a language. This means that they always have the way of communication ideas by manipulating sounds that are produced by their vocal organs, mouth. Even though some of the primitive ethnic group such as; Indian and Batak has a language of their own, like a gesture, drum beating, make a cloud of smoke.

The last of the characteristic is social because it is only used in a social group which involves the speaker and the hearer. In addition, language is a system of speak is used at least 2 persons systematically and has a meaning. Whereas the animal doesn’t have that characteristic, it is the latter use of language which distinguishes man from animal.

The animals can communication, such as; the ants, we can see when they walk in the wall and meet with the other ant, they will stop and accost. The research said that they stop because they will inform somewhere there is a foods, such as; a sugar. But they are not communicate with the language like us, because the animal haven’t the specific characteristics of the human language such as; duality, productivity, arbitrariness, interchangeability, displacement, specialization, and cultural transmission. Although sometimes we see a cockatoo can imitate the sounds of human, for instance; selamat pagi tuan, ada tamu, ada tamu!! But they can’t to make the else “language” that had been taught by the owner who taught the cockatoo i.e. unproductive and we know that the “android mobile phone” has an application program who called “tomcat”, it can imitate our voice, when we say something.

In conclusion, Allah gave us a position to be the best of the creature, give us the blessings, and taught us the language.With it we can communication with the other people in the whole world, without see the region, ethnic, nation, color of leather, and religion. The aim is to know, to understand and interconnect with them⁶. And the animal, why they can’t “speak a language”??? We know that in Koran, Allah told us “When the word [of truth] stands revealed against them,We shall bring forth unto them out of the earth a creature which will tell them that mankind had no real faith in Our messages⁷.” And in Hadits (traditional collection of stories relating words or deeds of Muhammad SAW the chief source of guidance for understanding religious questions) one of the signs of the doomsday is the animal can “speak a language” like human being⁸.

Violence. Violence was a primitive action.

Kendal, Tues/July/23/13. The clash occurred among Islamic group and society. That incident happened after Islamic group's cars was driven so reckless in the road way, consequently it crashed and killed one female citizen who drove a motorcycle. Then, the society get carried away and their car was broken right away. Before that, they was "sweeping" in many place who was pretend make a sin, such as: prostitution, and confiscated many alcoholics drink/booze. In Ramadan Month, they said that we did the right path and guard against the wrong way. In this month we want to do that, are we wrong? Perhaps it is told by them.

Have we ever turned back one year ago, one month ago, one day ago, or one minute ago? No, Times has passed can't be turned, because yesterday has been a history. We can't turn, repair, even change, and today is a chance we make a good history.
