Abstract
One of measurements of teaching learning process
success is the participation of student in teaching learning process. However,
the success up to now is still difficult to achieve. It is because of the lack
of appropriate media in learning process. In this research, the writer focuses
on using drama that drama can improve students’ motivations when teaching learning
run. It also happens at MA Nurul Islam Kriyan Jepara. Based on beginning
observations of English teaching learning process which run especially
compliment expression, it showed that teaching learning process is still
teacher-centered; meanwhile, students are only passive in joining the lesson.
Monotonous situation caused students bored and ignore the lesson. “using drama as
a media to maximize human ability will be a very significant effort because
drama is able to motivateand encourage participation in activities which will
help to achieve the learning goals.
This study is about The Effectiveness of Drama
Performance as Teaching Technique on Giving Compliment Expression at the Tenth
Grade of MA Nurul Islam Kriyan Jepara in the Academic Year of 2014/2015. The
statement of the problem in this study is; How is the effectiveness of drama
performance as teaching technique on giving
compliment expression at the tenth grade of MA Nurul Islam Kriyan Jepara in the
academic year of 2014-2015? The objective of this study is to find out the
effectiveness of drama performance as teaching technique on giving compliment
expression at the tenth grade of MA Nurul Islam Kriyan Jepara in the academic
year of 2014-2015.
The population of this research was the tenth grade
of MA Nurul Islam Kriyan Jepara. The research method was an eksperimental Research,
which conducted in two classes; the experimental group (XA) and control group (X
B) was. The( XA) was taught by using drama performance, while the (XB) was taught
without drama performance (using conventional method). The writer gave a test
to gather the data. There were two test; pre test and post test. Before items
of the test were given to the students, the writer gave tryout test to analyze
validity,reability, difficulty level and discriminating power of each item. After
the data had been collected by using test, it was found that the pretest average
of the experimental group was 57.13 and control group was 58.76. While, the
post-test average of the experimental group was 69.43 and control group was
64.08. The obtained t-test was 3.484, whereas the t-table was 1.67 for a= 5%.
The t-test score was higher than the t-table (2.055> 1.67). It was meant
that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Since t-test score was higher than
the t-table, the use of drama performance as teaching technique on giving
compliment expression is effective. Based on the finding, the writer assumes
that drama performance may be used as one of alternative medium in the teaching
of compliment expression.
